artist district (clogging the lofts)
3 years agoafter the bridge, once we had settled on how all this was gonna go down, i flew over head as zack and hillary booked through the artist district right by the river and the railroad tracks. the area is super cool. just massive old warehouse buildings that people have converted into living spaces. 2121, molino, toy factory, biscuit company, etc. all occupy space down there. the area has come a long long way in a very short while. it used to be totally ghetto, but we saw tons of young couples and singles out doing their thing, walking dogs, shopping, and what not. if they had a farmer’s market it would be complete. the only thing i have as an issue is the fact that the prices on the lofts is basically astronomical. i mean, it’s los angeles so rents gonna be up there, but 900sqft at $3 a foot is a bit steep. especially considering that they are aiming at young artist types. but maybe they are just aiming at successful artists. really really successful. a decent sized place in biscuit co is over a million so…sell your soul.
they road under the 7th st bridge and found some crazy good untouched spots to skate (they used to be skateboarders before they moved to los angeles). then there was a security guard under the bridge and zack road on ahead as hillary said to the guard “hey how’s it going.” to which the guard responded “hey what’s up man. it’s good.” so just to be nice hillary asked “is it okay if we ride around under here?” to which nice guy guard said “haha! no.” so hillary rounded up zack and we split for home.
if you’ve never been to skid row, swing past the american apparel store on 7th and be amazed in all sorts of good and bad ways.
