punk ass clucking lil’ piece of chicken?

me. i’m calling me a chicken.

the map is to the ride i would be doing right now if i weren’t a clucker.

you see, i work in production. for those of you that have never had the pleasure, sometimes in the world of television and film, you find out you are working on very short notice. for this one, i got the call, said yes, and cleared the riding aspect with all the appropriate authorities (mainly sara). i have to be there by 12pm which is simple. the part that makes me worry is getting off no earlier than 10pm (aka night time).

i set my alarm, got up on time made coffee and then thought about it. i’ve never done malibu canyon before and have no idea what it’s like. i know topanga during the day is sketchy even if you’re with other people (see my next post about my topanga ride) but i’d never do it at night due to the complete and total lack of street lights even though i have bright flashing lights on the ol’ twelve hundo.

so i posted up on craigslist bicycle forum (affectionitely referred to as the “bikefo” by its users) and asked about riding it at night. everyone said not to do it and one guy called me an idiot for thinking about it. bikefo has always been helpful in the past so i have no reason to doubt it now. 

so there’s no reason to call myself a chicken for being safe/smart. the chicken comes in when i’m not going to ride at all today. i got up with plenty of time to do my time trial ride to the beach and back. i could even at this point still ride out to malibu canyon, work all day and ride back the same way i would have come down well lit ventura blvd. i’m doing none of those things. hence the name calling. 

i’m being lazy. i’m wasting a perfectly good opportunity to ride. i’m using every excuse in the book. i am…working again tomorrow and will definitely not have time to ride so it looks like i’m waiting ‘til saturday.

i’m supposed to have some peeps along with me for saturday. it will be my first ride with other people in over a month (unless you count when my friend zak (zackmctee.com) and i rode to get a beer a few nights ago). i’m going to try to convince the other two or three guys to do this ride with me. during the day of course.
