ride report
just f everyone’s i, this is my “new” training ride. i am not riding anything but this ride until i a) achieve my goal (see below) or b) get married. the fiance is not pleased about my lack of insurance at the moment and i promised her i wouldn’t do my usual 100 milers until i am covered (aka on her policy).

i’m not sure if it’s the mapping program or my computer but there’s a mile difference i can’t account for between the two for this route. it’s always off a little, but never by a mile. especially over such a short distance…anyway, gmap is easy to use and free and does a quasi-calorie count and a cool elevation map. nifty.
dst = 23.5 miles
odo = 1204 miles
avg = 18.8 mph
max = 27.5 mph
1:15:23 = total time
i left around 5:30 am after beating the shit out of my snooze button. i was planning on leaving earlier so i wouldn’t hit so many lights on the way back but…
the ride down was good. i got hung up at la cienega for some reason but other than that there was zero traffic and i hit green at every other light on the way to the beach.
i stopped at peet’s on main for a water boost. i wasn’t gonna stop. i thought i would feel like i needed to and for part of the ride down i was sure i was either dead or going to die so…
i hit the pisser and filled the bottle and i was the 1st person through the door at 6 am sharp and they looked tired and pissed that i just snuck a squirt instead of buying coffee but i bet if they thought about it they would be glad that i didn’t make them work.
upon exiting i checked my computer and i’d made it to peet’s in almost exactly 30 min. avg mph 20.5. not too bad, but not good.
so i blasted back onto ol’ trek mcgrek and headed for venice.
i swooped the westminster circle and hit venice in no time. the light at lincoln was green which made me happy and sad. it’s never green for me. my brain was itching for a break but my legs were fine.
the bus that i kept passing was doing this awesome thing where it would pull out from the bus stop near the light and block the bike lane. the first time i thought nothing of it. just a dumb ol’ bus driver using tactics that are only necessary during heavy traffic. the second time he didn’t even glance at his mirror. the third time he looked, saw me, put his signal on and pulled out anyway. normally i would have spit in his face through the window but it was early and there was no traffic so i just went out into the center lane. look at me being all civil and shit.
it took me 45 min to get home and that includes a rapid stop at the 76 station by my house to fill up my rear tire. not sure how it got low but…
so, i’m not super pleased with the results of my little time trial but i will attempt again tomorrow and be up earlier so as to not have so many red lights on the way back. i’m not blaming lights i’m just saying.
i want to be able to do this ride in under an hour. that’s my goal. which means i’ve got to train like a hoo-ha to get up 4+ mph. so be it.
expect the next ride report to be boring since it will be more of the same. but soon it will be far more interesting because i will go back to varying my rides.
in the mean time i will post up links to the gmaps of the last few rides i’ve done.
chirp,
