hard to beat

holy crap. as i write this i’m still panting.

when i say today will be hard to beat, i don’t mean that i think i’ve done an amazing job. i mean that i am all but wiped out. i could definitely continue to ride past what i did but i pretty much pushed it to my limit and here is all i got -

distance = 22.7 miles (keep in mind this is the exact same route as yesterday and it says it was a mile shorter so who knows how accurate any of this information really is.)

 total miles = 1245

average speed = 20.2 mph (1.4 mph faster than yesterday)

max speed = 31.4 (don’t have a clue where i hit this but i’m assuming venice between helms and la cienega.)

total time = 1:07:24 (7 minutes faster than yesterday)

so what have we learned? not much.

i’m not sure if any of these numbers will ever be accurate but i am going to use them for what they are worth and try like crazy to beat my time every day.

i actually did better today on the way to the beach. i was a full mile an hour faster than yesterday’s time.

oh flap! one thing i forgot to mention is that i’m still lazy as hell and did not get up when i wanted to but because i was faster to the beach peet’s wasn’t open so i didn’t stop at all. and another thing is that i really only got stopped by two lights the whole way. one at the 405 and santa bonerca and the one at la cienega and venice.

there was a lot of slowing down and speeding up along the way…my day dream is to have a nice long stretch, say 22.7 miles where there are no stop lights and no stop signs and very little traffic. like a giant outdoor race track just for me. i bet if i could somehow eliminate the starting and stopping and busses i could do it in under an hour.

hmmm…well as it stands there is nothing like that that i know of and until then i have to deal with the things that come along with living in the city. if i could get out of bed 20 minutes earlier maybe it would save me time. and it would probably kill me. oh sweet death come and take me away. i want that hour!

i’m gonna go puke.

almost topanga

i almost took topanga canyon all the way to pch by myself but i “went for the miles” instead. just so you know “going for the miles” is the nice way to say i pussied out of taking the hill alone. it was rainy! jeez.

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2899043

stopped once on topanga at a starbucks and got a banana. this crappy program doesn’t like griffith park so i’m like 10 miles short cuz i rode all through the park before i finally decided where i was going.

you should try this ride. it’s easy.

ride report

just f everyone’s i, this is my “new” training ride. i am not riding anything but this ride until i a) achieve my goal (see below) or b) get married. the fiance is not pleased about my lack of insurance at the moment and i promised her i wouldn’t do my usual 100 milers until i am covered (aka on her policy).

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2898400

i’m not sure if it’s the mapping program or my computer but there’s a mile difference i can’t account for between the two for this route. it’s always off a little, but never by a mile. especially over such a short distance…anyway, gmap is easy to use and free and does a quasi-calorie count and a cool elevation map. nifty.

dst = 23.5 miles

odo = 1204 miles

avg = 18.8 mph

max = 27.5 mph

1:15:23 = total time

i left around 5:30 am after beating the shit out of my snooze button. i was planning on leaving earlier so i wouldn’t hit so many lights on the way back but…

the ride down was good. i got hung up at la cienega for some reason but other than that there was zero traffic and i hit green at every other light on the way to the beach.

i stopped at peet’s on main for a water boost. i wasn’t gonna stop. i thought i would feel like i needed to and for part of the ride down i was sure i was either dead or going to die so…

i hit the pisser and filled the bottle and i was the 1st person through the door at 6 am sharp and they looked tired and pissed that i just snuck a squirt instead of buying coffee but i bet if they thought about it they would be glad that i didn’t make them work.

upon exiting i checked my computer and i’d made it to peet’s in almost exactly 30 min. avg mph 20.5. not too bad, but not good.

so i blasted back onto ol’ trek mcgrek and headed for venice.

i swooped the westminster circle and hit venice in no time. the light at lincoln was green which made me happy and sad. it’s never green for me. my brain was itching for a break but my legs were fine.

the bus that i kept passing was doing this awesome thing where it would pull out from the bus stop near the light and block the bike lane. the first time i thought nothing of it. just a dumb ol’ bus driver using tactics that are only necessary during heavy traffic. the second time he didn’t even glance at his mirror. the third time he looked, saw me, put his signal on and pulled out anyway. normally i would have spit in his face through the window but it was early and there was no traffic so i just went out into the center lane. look at me being all civil and shit.

it took me 45 min to get home and that includes a rapid stop at the 76 station by my house to fill up my rear tire. not sure how it got low but…

so, i’m not super pleased with the results of my little time trial but i will attempt again tomorrow and be up earlier so as to not have so many red lights on the way back. i’m not blaming lights i’m just saying.

i want to be able to do this ride in under an hour. that’s my goal. which means i’ve got to train like a hoo-ha to get up 4+ mph. so be it.

expect the next ride report to be boring since it will be more of the same. but soon it will be far more interesting because i will go back to varying my rides.

in the mean time i will post up links to the gmaps of the last few rides i’ve done.

pps hroddd got clocked & runned by an old lady driving a caddy when she ran the fuck out of a stop sign. a plate # and 6 witnesses and the cops haven’t got her yet…

h is a mother fuckin’ ninja. he popped dropped and slid like dukes of hazard across her hood dragging the bike all over her paint and denting the fender with his knee. one scrape on the leg and some bent bars on the bike (canny borrowed from zak due to afore mentioned stolen trek) and that’s that mattress man. filled out the police report and rode 13 miles back to the crib.

the sweetest made him buy a helmet. hasn’t arrived from the internet yet. over 150 miles clocked since the hit & run.

ps hella good foto machine on that fone man! look at those pixels shine!!!

oh shit! out with that old trek and bring in the new one!
yeah, the ‘89 trek with pink got stoled so sweetest bought hroddd another but this one is from the fucking future! at least in comparison to the other. ‘90 is in the mother now! pink bar tape was gonna go with the black and pink one but ol’ h threw it on this bitch to commemorate the lose and shit. two days in the saddle clocked in about 80 miles. tear ass.
